Forum Title: YES - Christmas light clips will damage your shingles
I had been asked this so many times over the last few weeks I lost count. For anyone wondering, using those sliding clips directly on shingles will DAMAGE them.If you are going to use lights or someone who is asks you the question, tell them to never use anything directly on the shingles or the gutters. NOTHING. ZIP. ZERO. I don't care how safe the package says they are. Keep lights on pillars, siding (sticky clips), and the front lawn.

LOL I can't tell you how many times people ask stuff like this, specially October onward. I have had people ask me if putting nails directly into a shingle was safe and if it can actually hold the weight of MANY strands of lights. I know most people don't understand roofing but come on.

To be fair, we have to remember the people who are asking actually want to be safe. I can't tell you how many roofs I have done with old nails and light rigs stuck into the house. Some of which actually caused major leaking. At least these folks are asking!

I don't think it is because they are stupid or something but really, education should cover things like this in school.
